New Year is colloquially called Shogatsu .

3 . Food for deities
4 . Sending postcards

Japanese people in this time spends a lot of time with family , they play at new year games like :

- hanetsuki - something like badminton
- takoage - flying a kite
- karuta - card game
- sugoroku - board game

In this time there are a lot of festivals and rituals etc .
